I get a kick out of all the people that praise and recommend Bill Murphy's book, "In Pursuit of Giant Bass," but who won't give Spoonplugging a second look. Apparently they don't realize that Paul Prorok, the guy who wrote Bill's book, was one of the original Chicago area Spoonpluggers, and locally trained with the best. In my opinion, it was Paul's structure fishing background that was the key to making that book such an outstanding read. Only someone with that in-depth knowledge level of structure could have brought Bill's world to life in just such a way. Read through "In Pursuit" and you'll also find several references to Buck and Spoonplugging. And, if you're familiar with Buck's writings, all kinds of stuff will stand out to you when you're reading the book.
Here is a picture from an old Fishing Facts article that Paul wrote. Take note of all the Spoonplugs housed in his tackle box.
