Spoonplugging: Your Guide to Lunker Catches, a.k.a., The "Green" Book. No ifs, ands, or buts...got to have it! Priority #1 on your reading list as a structure fisherman. Everything else written will tie into this book in some form or fashion. That said, perhaps you've noticed what appear to be a couple different versions available for purchase. Here's the deal.
Check out the cover. This is the first edition of the book - says so right on the lower left cover. The original printing. Normal big "Spoonplugging" lettering in an arch across the top third of the book. "Knowledge...Is the Key to Fishing Success!" at the very top. This is actually a semi-hard cover book with dust jacket. You get this one in really good shape, you keep it protected. My own copy is like new and autographed and inscribed by Buck himself - it is sealed in plastic and never gets taken out. A keepsake. Note that there is also a black leatherette version listed as First Edition that can be purchased directly from the buckperry.com website for $29.95. Pick which one you want - I like the look of the "Green" version better.
Later editions (printings) look like the book above. "Spoonplugging" title at the top in some fancy graphical format. "Knowledge is the key" statement toward the bottom half. Soft cover with no dust jacket. This is the version I read, and reread, then read again - then I highlight and tab key sections. This is the version you're most likely to come across for sale. Buy it, read it, wear it out. My version is coming undone at the binding from so much use. You should be able to purchase used and less expensive. Be willing to pay more for the First Edition if you find it - then save it as a collectors item to hand down to your kids and family.
