Since they are still available, most Spoonplugs sold online go for less than retail. However, every once in a while, a rare or collectible item will appear for sale, and it's always fun to see just how much money some of these items will fetch. This just happened recently when a set of 'like new' #300 Spoonplugs went up for sale. The #300 was the predecessor to the #500, basically just a rename later in the game. However, when it first appeared and was sold, there were a couple different versions produced (3 in total, I believe), one of which was a "light" version made out of aluminum and not brass. This set of light #300 Spoonplugs just fetched a tidy little sum in a recent Ebay auction.

Sadly, Spoonplugging is a dying art. I recently came across this walleye article that sums up in a nutshell the problem that Buck Perry and Spoonplugging face - a newer generation that never grew up hearing, seeing or reading about any of this. To quote the great Joan Wulff from a recent interview, "You know, again, because it all adds up, and the people now coming in have no concept of it. The young...your generation doesn't care about history."
