'Structure' Not Comprehended by Anglers

"Although Buck Perry's name is enshrined in the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame, he's never gotten the credit he deserves for his contribution to fishing knowledge all across this country.

There is danger Perry will never get his just credit, for most of today's younger fishermen are getting recycled knowledge from modern fishing heroes and writers that is either inaccurate or misunderstood.

Forgive them, Buck. They simply don't know."

Perry Takes Blame for Tourney Trolling Ban

It all came about, according to Perry, during the early years of the administration of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower when friendly fishing competition was being installed as part of one of the president's programs.

"I was called in to advise on the program," said Perry, "and was asked how spoonpluggers could be prevented from winning all the tournaments.

"There just is no way, I told them, except to place a ban on trolling." Perry added. "It was agreed, and I expect that began the existing bans on trolling in tournament competition."

Spotted: "Catching Fish"

Found a short Troy Lindner video online featuring the book "Catching Fish." Troy looked to be holding the new and updated version available through Linder Media, but the original paper booklet version which dates back to 1974 is a classic. Along with Bill Binkelman, Al and Ron put about everything they had ever written up to that time in this stapled booklet (which was several hundred pages). A "must have" for the angling library.

Al Lindner, Jeff Zernov - 1975

A picture featured in a July/August issue of a Minnesota and Wisconsin fishing reports magazine from back in 1975 featuring Al Lindner, who was just getting ready to start up In-Fisherman magazine along with Jeff Zernov, electronics whiz who started Zercom Marine and developed the Aqua-Vu camera.

"I was sort of accepted as a Nisswa Guide because I was hanging around with Al and Ron," Jeff said. "Fishing as we know it started here. It was based on the wisdom and teachings of Buck Perry and Bill Binkelman. They revolutionized the sport."

Crappie - Structure, Breaks, Breaklines and Deep Water

Here's a few photos from this weekend's crappie trip. The top is a screenshot of a breakline we were fishing showing fish sitting tight on the drop as it slid off from about 9' of water into 17'-19' of water. The next is what those fish happened to be. The last was our final tally after a good day on the water. Structure situations (structure, breaks, breaklines, deep water) accounted for all these fish.
