Not to be critical here, but I always tell people to look at tourney standings from the bottom up, not from the winner on down. Why? Because even the best professional bass anglers in the world struggle sometimes, and I feel like it's important to realize this. That's the nature of the game, and we've all been there - and will be again. Case in point - if you've been following the Elite event down on the Sabine R. through 3 days, you'd see that the following anglers blanked on at least one day of the tournament:
Bernie Shultz, Bill Lowen, Bobby Lane, Byron Velvick, Carl Jocumsen, Chad Pipkens, Charlie Hartley, Cliff Prince, David Walker, Edwin Evers, Fred Roumbanis, Jason Williamson, Jeff Kriet, Joe Sancho, Kevin Ledoux, Kevin Short, Paul Mueller, Randy Allen, Rick Clunn, Scott Ashmore, Seth Feider, Skeet Reese, Stephen Longobardi, Steve Kennedy, and Zell Rowland.
In case you need further insight into the tough fishery that it is, BassFan posted a short report (KVD Still Believes) on KVD before the Day 3 launch. He was sitting in 41st place and fixing to make a move on Day 3. “I’m coming for ‘em today,” he was quoted as saying, along with, “I feel like if I can catch 12 pounds today I’ll make the Top 12. That’s my goal. And I’m telling you, that kinda weight lives where I’m fishing. We’re gonna go hawg-snatchin’ today."
As it turned out, he caught one bass less than 2-1/2 pounds and dropped to 46th place. We're all mortal at some point when it comes to bass fishing.
