I thought about doing the same thing, wish I would have. We're you on Geist ?

Where did these big Indiana smallies come from? I have had some luck recently on the white river, but it looks to me like you guys are on a reservoir.

Looks like Shafer to me.

How bout just what state it was in? :)

Haha - not Geist...I would have recognized that lake. Somewhere north of Indy. That's about all Jacob would tell me. I had to ride blindfolded in one of the Z521 rod lockers on the way up. He let me out after he launched the boat, but I didn't see any signs :) Someone must have spotted the Rayovac boat out on the water and could tell you where they saw us ;)

What were the hot lures? Let me guess: hair jigs or jerk baits?

Bill - jigs, rigs and jerkbaits were all loaded on deck. About all we threw. Wanted to try a crankbait, but never pulled one out.

Lake Shafer... not much of a secret I don't know why everyone acts like it's a secret around the state. Every year it produces insane smallmouth this time of the year, it's not hard to figure out, plus in a wrapped truck and boat it's rather hard to hide. Terry McWilliams, Wes Thomas, Brody McWilliams, Jacob Wheeler, Wayne Macklin, Randy Abbot, and several others have all been out there already and been posting pictures of the amazing fishery.

IF - not so much a question of secrecy, more a matter of respect. If a friend takes you to a place, shows you around, but then asks you not to mention the lake name or share specific spots with your buddies, then you abide by those wishes. Common courtesy, really, which seems to be lacking among many anglers these days...actually has been that way for a long time. As you point out, everyone is pretty recognizable these days if you know who you're looking for, so word always gets out eventually.

Common courtesy in Indiana? Bwaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha! Just wait, there will be guides up there next fall really exploiting the fishery. Pretty soon fish will be leaving in live wells headed for walls, private ponds, other fisheries and even a few fish fries. Just like everything else in Indiana, the fishermen will be its demise.

Have to agree with you there, Josh. Angler self-interest is a contributing factor to a whole lot of what's gone wrong with many of our fisheries, and to a certain extent, what's wrong with fishing now days, especially tournament based competition.

Fishermen appear to be genetically predisposed to be absolutely unable to keep their mouths shut. ( & cameras off )
Wonder how many more are now aware of this particular location / pattern ?
... sorry
