I mentioned that it seems like I've been catching a lot more catfish this year on bass tackle than normal, and several readers have confirmed that with their tales of similarly reported catches. However, Justin Myers' catch this past weekend probably takes top honors to date. Justin wrote:
"Darrel Knies and I were fishing a Friday night tournament this weekend when this monster bit my 1/2 ounce jig. Thirty minutes later, we had a good laugh and one slimy boat. Not a bass, but still a great catch on 12lb fluorocarbon."
Check out this brute!!!
Wow how big is that beast? Caught about 50 lbs on a jig on Ohio river and that one makes my flathead look small. Bet that has been many people's ten pound bass stories that they broke off lol

They certainly didn't have a scale in the boat that would weigh that big of a fish, but they were guessing 65-70 pounds I believe. Has to be right up there. At one time the state record flathead of 79 pounds 8 ounces caught in 1966 was also the world record if I'm not mistaken. This one might have given that one a scare.

While nowhere close to the size of that monster, my dad and I caught 10-12 pound channel catfish out on Waveland every now and then while we were crappie fishing using 1/16oz jigs and 4 pound test line. We would pull up the anchor on the rowboat, let them tow us around till we wore them out.
