While most were probably out at the boat show today, I took advantage of the (again) ice free lake and launched the Team SunChips Mercury powered Lowe into the 39.4 degree water of my local reservoir. Winds N/NW to 10 mph and mostly sunny skies made for chilly but pleasant conditions. Water was much clearer than the last trip, pushing 2'-3' visibility and good enough to throw jerkbaits in. I eneded up doing that for half the trip trying to entice a big fish, but only caught one normal sized bass on it. Did pick up 8 others sissy jigging, and have this related "tidbit" to pass along related to today's trip.
Hey Brian, how do you fish your sissy jig, i.e. soaking it, hopping, dragging, etc

Thom, like everything else, it varies depending upon the mood of the fish and the type of cover (and depth) I'm fishing. In slightly warmer water (upper 40's) and along riprap banks, I use more of a slow swim and glide to keep it above the rocks. On steep banks it's more of a lift and drop, while right now in this really cold water where I'm having to fish a 1/16-oz. jig in 8'-18' of water to get bit, it's more like a lift and shake, trying to hold it and swim in place with less horizontal movement.
Be watching the site for a couple more related videos soon. One will be on the different type jigs/baits I use and when, and I'm also planning on doing a longer segment of an actual on-the-water sissy jigging trip once the weather breaks in March and the bite picks up.
