Remember science fair days back in school? Wish I was as into fishing then as I am now. I could have came up with neat projects like this one: Fishing Line Strain.
If you have kids that need a simple project for science class, you might consider something similar. For easy reference sake, the weight used was approx. 2.2 pounds. The monofilament line diameters translate to roughly 2, 4, 10, 17 and 25 pound test. This would explain why they got no data on the 2 pound test (.1mm) as the 2.2 lb. weight broke the line every time.
There is a lesson here though if you read through the entire project: All forces applied being equal, heavier monofilament line will stretch less than lighter line.
