2011 Season Wrap-Up Journal
What a whirlwind the last few months have been! Since the finish of the Everstart Championship at the end of October, so many things have happened that have reshaped the course of the future. Early November, I reached an agreement with a title sponsor, The Red Gold Company, headquartered here in Central Indiana and famous for their tomatoes, ketchup, and salsa products. I also announced that I will be fishing the 2012 FLW Tour Majors. Several people and associate sponsors have stepped up in big ways to help give me this opportunity that I’ve waited my whole life for. What a blessing!
At the same time all of that was happening, my insurance career took an interesting turn when the company I worked for building an agency with the past 3 years forced me to resign. They cited my fishing career as an outside interest that they couldn’t allow me to pursue while being an agent for their company. A blessing in disguise, but the immediate concern lie in how I would continue to provide for my family in the meantime. I had multiple opportunities present themselves over the course of the last month, and I’m proud to say that I’ve reached an agreement to become an Independent Agent with the Ray Insurance Group in Fishers beginning January 1, 2012. Everything is coming together as I trusted God to provide the opportunities He wanted me to have.
Sponsor commitments have been my focus going into this next season, as well as starting to prepare for the season itself. Promotions have already gotten underway along with lots of planning, scheduling, and coordinating. My boat wrap has been designed and is in production right now. Evinrude has shipped a new ETEC to my dealer that will be installed next week. I’ll be heading down to work a dealer open house for Evinrude on January 7th at Jet-A-Marina near Kentucky Lake, and I may even try to sneak in a few hours on the water while I’m there. I’ll haul the boat home and take it to King Marine in Fishers for some additional equipment to be added for next year, including Power Poles and some custom LED’s. From there, the Outdoorsman Sport Shop Open House on Jan. 28, the Indiana Fishing Expo Jan. 28-29, and the Indianapolis Boat, Sport, and Travel Show Feb. 17-26th working booths with Red Gold, Red Dirt Bait Company, Reaction Strike and Castaic Swimbaits, and King Marine. I've been working with River Rat Tackle, Red Dirt, and Castaic on some new product development as well that will be exciting to see and fish with next year.
On the fishing front, Lake Hartwell is up first on the FLW Tour in March. I’ve started to prepare and do research on the lake and the typical weights needed to do well there. Hopefully a trip down to Anderson/Greenville, SC will take place before the cut-off dates to familiarize myself with the lake. I’ve been taking inventory of tackle, rods, reels, line, etc. over the past couple of weeks and preparing all of my equipment for the next season. I’ve also taken a quick look at new lures, line, and equipment coming out in 2012 to stay on top of the technology cutting edge. My good friend, Terrance Smith, will be joining me on the Tour next season as a Co-Angler at each event and as my practice partner as well. We’ve been working together to coordinate travel arrangements and researching each venue. It should be a fun time for both of us.
There’s so much more to do and much more I could write. 2012 appears to be a year of hope, not just for me personally but for our country as a whole. So many people have struggled and fought their way through the economic pitfalls that have occurred over the past few years. Never in my dreams would I have imagined an opportunity like the one that I have for this upcoming year. There’s a lot of gratitude in my heart, and in a culture where sometimes we are never satisfied, we sometimes have to stop and realized how blessed we are. Thanks again to all of you who have taken this journey with me in 2011 – my life has been richer and better for it. Many thanks go out to all of you, and best wishes in 2012!
